Kiel's First Cinema Experience

Monday, July 10, 2017

"When I won movie tickets to watch the exclusive screening of Despicable Me 3 sponsored by Nuffnang and Colgate, I got excited."

Mainly because of two reasons. First, it will be Kiel's first time to watch in a cinema. Although I'm not sure if he is already capable, I still wanted to try.

Second, I was requested to bring Kiel in a Minion's costume. This made me excited that I spent a lot of time in Pinterest looking for DIY minions costume.

So off we went to Shang Cineplex last June 17. Despite the super heavy Saturday traffic, we arrived early for the registration.

At the venue, they had this contest where you can post your selfies (taken that day) on social media. Since we were early, we had plenty of time to take our photos. Kiel was very cute that day so we also took pictures of his OOTD to add to his #KielOOTD collection in Instagram.

I was about to post the pics online when my phone battery emptied. Huhu. Imagine that feeling na todo effort ka sa kakapicture then napunta lang sa wala. Besides, it's not that easy taking pictures of a very active toddler. You really only have a few seconds to capture that perfect moment.

Kiel was dressed as a Minion since the movie to watch is Despicable Me 3. Let me describe in detail how the costume came to be:
  • Yellow T-shirt - bought this from Marikina Palengke at P50
  • White & Blue shorts - bought at SM Department store. It comes with a matching suspender na.
  • Shoes - this is Kiel's school shoes since we enrolled him this year as a todler student. As a side kwento, we actually had a hard time looking for a 'legit' school shoes due to the size of his feet. Mostly are for pre-schoolers which are too big for him. May iba na kasya pero super mahal naman. Since kalalakihan lang niya, sayang naman if bumili ng mahal. Lucky that we found this at SM (size 23). Kaso lang last stock on display na.
  • Minion Hat - I was looking for a yellow bonnet sana but wala ako makita. I bought this construction hat at the toys section instead. My sister drew the eyes and used black electrical tape to act as goggle's strap kunwari. Then used glue gun to keep the eyes in place, kaso natanggal pa din sa kakulitan ni Kiel, haha.
Since the yellow construction cap is maluwag and Kiel does not like it when we put it in his head, we had him wear a bonnet underneath. This way, hindi niya nararamdaman if nilalagay na namin ang sumbrero sa ulo niya (for picture taking purposes, hehe).

So there..that's the first costume he has that is DIY'ed. Hehe..Hopefully, this coming Halloween Trick or Treat, we can do another one. Or he can make use of this minion costume.

So how did the movie go? It turned out to be a FAILURE. I guess we were not that ready yet.

The moment we entered the cinema, I felt Kiel becoming tensed. When we were already seated and the lights were turned off, he started crying. The loud sounds at the start of the show startled him. He got scared at the huge screen when the characters started appearing.

I knew he was not the only child his age at the cinema, some were even younger than him. But I guess, every child behaves differently. He was not ready for his first cinema experience yet. We had food and drinks to distract him but it did not suffice.

"In less than 5 minutes since the movie started, we were out of the cinema."

I know soon when he is ready, he will enjoy the experience. But not yet for now.
