Travel: Rizal Park (Luneta)

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

We went to Luneta a few weeks ago just because I've been requesting to go there for quite a while now. Almost 9 years na ako sa Manila but I never really had the chance to go there to spend some relaxation time, do some sightseeing and trying to be a tourist in my own city. I know I sounded so like a probinsyana, pero that's the truth, probinsyana talaga ako and I feel so legit if makapunta na ako at maexperience ang Luneta. Haha, I know right, ang korni ko.

Luneta, also known as Rizal Park is a major tourist attraction of Manila. In fact, it is one of the largest urban parks in Asia. On the picture above is the park's symbolic focal point, the Rizal Monument where Jose Rizal's remains is enshrined. Sabi nila gold raw ang tatlong stars jan sa tuktok kaya binabantayan ng guards? Haha, ewan kung totoo. And look at that 'Pambansang Photobomber' behind. Hmmm, can't help but feel sorry for the shrine.

This is Kilometer Zero of our country. It serves as the starting point from which all road distances from Manila are measured.

I didn't realized what this was until DJ told me that this is an outdoor flower clock.

The entire park consists of 3 sections. In order to transfer to other sections, you need to cross the Ped Xing.

You can also try hiring a Kalesa, a horse-driven carriage for the experience. Intramuros and Fort Santiago are just nearby which are also must see historical places.

Sculptures which depicts the Filipino life are scattered across the park. Here is a Tamaraw. Akala ko  kalabaw ito. Haha, If you look closer sa pic, me kalabaw din naman. Kalabaw is our country's national animal.

Roaming around the park, we passed by this pathwalk aligned with fire trees na kokonti ang leaves. Haha, wala lang, nafeel ko lang bigla magpakuha ng family picture. Hehe.

There are areas of the park that I was not able to take some pics. Others di ko talaga napuntahan. Inside the park, there's a Chinese Garden. There's another separate Japanese Garden, Orchidarium and Butterfly Pavilion and a Noli Me Tangere Garden (??) I was able to check out the relief map of the Philippines which is in the middle of a small man-made lagoon. As expected there's a Children's Playgound for the kids. Also near the park are museums, a library and an oceanarium.

The highlight of our visit I guess is the Musical Dancing Fountain. At night, the central lagoon features a musical fountain show with waters soaring up to 88 feet, fireballs, exploding water rockets and peacock spray water screens. Pop songs are played at intervals where the music beat is in rhythm with the changing of colors reflected in the waters. Dito talaga kami natuwa eh. Haha!
